In February 2021, pregnant Sam was rescued by Melief Animal Sanctuary thanks to a miraculous set of events. At the time, House of Animals was already in motion to make a documentary about the amazing beings pigs are – a species of which 1,5 billion are slaughtered worldwide each year. House of Animals wanted to show the individual behind the number. The smart, intelligent and sentient being that we don’t get to see, because of the giant walls the meat industry has built.

When Sam arrived, House of Animals knew it was meant to be. Sam’s story and those of her children should be the main focus of the documentary. Since her rescue, the people behind Melief are doing everything they can to make life for Sam comfortable and give her space to discover what it is like to be a pig. House of Animals has been present every step of the way, documenting Sam’s new life as it unfolds.

Sam’s babies were born on March 16, 2021. On the IG account @mymomsam, you can read and follow everything that happened after they arrived. On the ‘Meet The Piglets‘ page, you can get a closer look at the five little ones that will feature in the documentary. The other piglets will be adopted by warm and loving humans that will take care of them just like Melief does. You can read here why.

The documentary is expected to launch in 2022. Till then, please be sure to follow Sam and her children on Instagram where you can read all about their process and adventures.
